Merlins Over Malta are attending this years Fly! – The London Air Show that takes place at Earls Court starting this Friday and continuing until Sunday.
We are being supported by UsedJag.com and they are bringing along a selection of cars, one of which is the competition Jaguar X-Type. The competition closes in just over a month, so this will be one of the last chances you have to enter.
We are also being joined by the Solent Sky replica Spitfire. For a donation, you will be able to sit in the cockpit which now represents a genuine Mk 1 Spitfire. Joining the Spitfire on the stand will be a restored Rolls-Royce Merlin, a restored Spitfire control panel that is waiting to be put into Aero Vintage’s latest Spitfire Vc EF545 and the RAF at War living history group.
We have many exclusive items for sale at the show. Many of these items will appear on our website for sale after the show.
If you are planning to attend come and visit us on Hangar Stand 23 (towards the back right of the exhibition hall). You will not miss us… We have a Spitfire on the stand!
Have a look at our events webpage for more details
I hope we will see you there.

Propstrike – I hugely agree.
Flying Chick – Thank heavens you put a ‘wink’ at the end of your line. How well do you know him?

Alan Cassidy is a good guy, and a first-class pilot. His manner is thoughtful, and he draws on his wide experience with reflection and wisdom, which is probably why you may feel you have little in common.

Great book – shame about his personality 😉

I went on Friday and just spent the day bumping into old friends I had not seen for a while and meeting new ones. It was worth going just for that.
If you like aerobatics, go to the Exxon stand (near the huge screeen on the wall) and find Alan Cassidy. He’s put a life-time’s knowledge of aerobatics down in a book and is selling it there. I’ve just started reading it and it and I love it already.

I went last year and was quite impressed although I haven’t bothered this year. In fairness this is partly due to lack of spare time but I don’t feel like I am missing out hugely to be honest. Glad it seems to have been successful though.

Yesterday (Friday ) was the first day, and I popped along to take advantage of some complimentary tickets. Overall, I came away quite impressed, and there is plenty to see and do. I would say the indoor format works better than marquees at airfields, as the stands are bigger, better, and the atmosphere is generally more relaxed and comfortable.
There are a dozen or so full size aircraft on display, mainly modern, some helicopters as well as the wooden Spitfire, which one can sit in, and go ‘dagga, dagga, dagga’.
Many of the exhibitors have sophisticated simulators, with the Brietling Jet combat example probably the best. The r/c model flying displays are remarkable as well.
Value for money? Probably, if you are really into flying, but a reluctant partner might do better saving the money, and going round the shops instead. Overall though, pretty good, certainly more interesting than I was expecting.
