The best Saturday morning for some time……

…..was last Saturday, when I spent a very enjoyable couple of hours at the Gatwick Aviation Museum (before moving on to Brooklands).
My thanks go to the gentleman who gave me a guided tour of all the aircraft, including the inside of the Pembroke, Sea Prince, and Shackleton, and for letting me hang around close (but not too close!) to the Vixen while both engines were run up – Fantastic!!
For anyone interested in British Cold War era aircraft, get over there as soon as you can – you will not be disappointed. After all, where else can you see TWO Shackletons together?!?! 🙂 🙂 🙂

For Old Fart – the only pic I got of the Sea Hawk.

Peter Mills – Please pass on my thanks to Ted for showing me around 😉 🙂

TMN,

Very glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit. As you can see we are actively working on the aircraft to bring more into running condition as well as improving their general well being. The gentleman who showed you around would have been Ted. The Lightning is not ready for engines yet, it will be some before the prospect of runs are close. We are currently estimating about 18 months. Watch out for a major new update to the Lightning web pages in the very near future! Written by the engineers working on ZF579.

Peter,
they told me they WILL get the Lightning to a ground runnable state, but as you can see from the attached – no engines yet!
I will certainly make the 165mile journey if they get the Lightning, Vixen, and Bucc ground running, and one of the Sea Princes taxying up and down the strip, as they are all capable of it!
Couple more shots anyway….
🙂 😎 😉

It seems like you had a good time. 🙂 Any more pics? (maybe from those Shackletons?)

Greets,

J.V.
