Nice to see the BEA Viking now restored to its correct natural metal scheme, after being painted ‘grey’ at Cosford. Looks like they are currently working on this, so this may have only recently been done. Next time you go there, ask them to repaint the Vanguard in BEA red square livery?

Build a T2 Hangar and some RAF Buildings and you’re on :p a few nice WW2 RAF ground vehicles would be nice as well (for some reason these are one of my favourite exhibits in aviation museums)

Now that would be nice, but where to put it? My choice would be East Kirby, because of the authentic setting, and also Brooklands and Hendon already have a Wellington.

Mmm, take that forward Wimpy fuselage and combine it with the ex-Breamar Wellington wings now at East Kirkby and the tail section at Moreton-in-the-Marsh (or the tail on show at Sola, Norway) and we have another complete airframe.
Cheers

I must confess that I didn’t take too much notice of the Fury, but it from memory it seemed to be complete.
The fuselage of ‘R-Robert’ seems to be covered/uncovered in the same areas on both sides, so it’s not as if one side is wholly uncovered to show the interior.

Image 28 – from left to right, Tony Iveson (616 & 92 Sqns – and from 1944 617 Sqn), William Walker (616 Sqn), and Richard Jones (64 & 19 Sqns).
BTW image 27 is on the right!!
Enjoy

Valiant BK.1 XD816, I don’t know if Steve got around to Chipmunk WP921/G-ATJJ so I gave it a fondle just in case, Barnes Wallis’ ‘Victory bomber’ model, and the ‘Hawker Snowblower’ featuring an Avon (probably from a Hunter F.1), 1940 period Austin K2 chassis, and a homebuilt cab for use at Dunsfold.

Wow that Hurricane sure is coming along well! Has the Fury been completed yet? Would be nice if Brooklands had a proper, well lit hangar so you could appreciate the beautiful aircraft properly, especially the Valetta and Fury. Aren’t there plans for this?

Very nice, must go there again sometime! Is there one side of the Wellington without the fabric cut away? Love the car collection there as well, two of my favourite things at one place, vintage race cars and old aircraft!

Cheers Arm Waver, sounds like good news.

Dave
I seem to recall reading in the last few days there is a plan for a big hangar to put the bigger ‘frames in out of the weather. Brooklands is “privately” owned as far as I know.

Is Brooklands a ‘national’ museum, ie public owned? Or is it privately owned? I notice they have a lot of significent airframes outdoors – Duxford and other sites get it in the neck from many on this board for that, do people feel the same about Brooklands keeping planes outside? Or are they much better cared for? Surely it’d be cheaper in the long run to build a big hangar and put them under cover than to keep painting and maintaining airframes?
Looks like a great museum, I’ve only seen it at a distance from the train.

Not been there for a few years – looks like a return trip is in order. A lovely museum and the cars are just as interesting.
Cheers Anna
