April fool (well sort of)
Title should be “Ed Russell Gets a 1/3rd Scale Model Lancaster!”

Unless it’s raised up on something?

A 1/3 Lanc is just a bit smaller than a full-scale Spit…

I was at the Russell Groups facility a few weeks back. I’m not too sure if 1/3 mentioned in the article ment the scale or the actual total construction of the mock-up. From my understanding, they are only building everything from the wings up to the forward turret and setting it on landing gear. There will be no aft section. There actually isn’t that much room in that hanger. Just enough for Mr. Russell’s 4 aircraft (maybe room for one or two more small fighters packed in) but not enough for a full Lancaster, even at 1/3 scale. I remember seeing the wooden frames of the wings back in February. They looked like 1/1 scale to me and I visit the Lancaster at the CWHM quite often.
I’ll be heading back there in a few weeks. If the Lancaster is there, I’ll make sure to take some photos and post them. If not, she should be ready by June for that airshow.
Cheers,
Dean

Never noticed that – it looks like the cockpit section (or what I presume to be that, anyway) is flush with the fuselage, whereas it’s not on the Lanc (if you see what I mean).

Have to say the shape’s a bit odd too – the cross section seems more like a Stirling to me.

Does it not look a bit bigger than 1/3 scale?

One heck of a shelf you’d need for that! 😀
