dakota2 – no, it is definately a Hind, a bomber version. It is ex-RNZAF. It is being restored to flight by the Subtritzky’s for James Slade of the OSRC and will be the first of several they plan to restore. The Subritzky’s had four airframes (including this one they’ve recently sold to Slade) and the next one they will rebuild is for themselves and will be a trainer version. This is right now just components. They have a third one in pretty complete original condition in the hangar that they are not dismantling because they use it as a visual guide in the restoration of Slade’s one.

See the recent Parker and Paterson in Auckland threads for loads of close ups of the Slade Hind.

I will go for a Hawker Demon Mk11 – due to the deeper gunners cockpit.

That’s a great website and a wonderful collection which has sprung up almost overnight, as it were. I shall have to try to get to the next Wings Over Wairarapa airshow I think. I cannot wait to see the Hind flying. It looked beautiful when I saw it at the Subritzkys’ workshops.

Wow, I never knew there was more than one Wairarapa Wildcat, and that one exists. Brilliant. I loved it when the Hanna’s had their P40E in that scheme, it looks rubbish now in comparsion IMHO.

The P40

Is it P-40M (NZ3119) ?

The news section makes reference to this airframe being moved to the OSRC for the next stage of its restoration

But as above shows, I may be wrong…….
