I had no idea that any parts of the dornier were buried – amazing if this is true. my gf lives a few minutes from victoria – I have always shunned the place, but now being the area so often, I have had many chances to see the scars on the building from the Do 17 incident. Fascinating! if only I had known my gf when they dug up Ray Holmes’ hurribird! (note to lovely gf – obviously i don’t mean that!! :p )

Funny this, it’s supposed to be Ray Holmes kill, but it is also partly attributed to Keith Ogilvie of 609 isn’t it?
Quite a few had a go at it Snapper you are correct (not least Sgt Hubacek of 310 Sqn….he was shot down later in the day…I know someone who has the grip from the aircraft  ).

If I remember right, when this was shown live Holmes was more interested in chatting up the presenter than anything else, there were a couple of remarks that he made to her with a grin on his face 😉

There was a documentary on recently (can’t remember which channel) about the recovery of the engine from Sgt Holmes’ Hurricane from under (IIRC) the Elephant and Castle(?). Very good too emotional for Sgt Holmes and his son.

A spokeswoman from Network Rail said it would make sure no disruption is caused for passengers.
