Just got Volume 1 of the new Merrick book on Luftwaffe Colours from Classic Publications- excellent reference for anyone painting or restoring LW aircaft.
Amongst the hundreds of pictures, there is a May 45 picture of an underground Fw190 Assembly line at Templehof airport. Was it cleared post-war or sealed – are there a line of 190s still waiting to be found????
Did anything come of the Schoenfeld query as well??

We get these stories all the time in Aus and I am as sceptical as they come – one great one about buried Beaufighters in a mine shaft near Charters Towers in Queensland -. So last time this was posted I launched off in a tirade about how this wasted everyones time and then a well respected Spitfire authority posts a pic of Spits being dug up in the Northern Territory- Bugger! So I never say never but!!!
If anyone wants to dig up something in Aus that IS there then I do have something for you.
Williamtown RAAF Base – end of the old WW11 north south runway – a trench was dug postwar and 40 plus fighters and spares were buried there – I have photos of the trench, dump and seen the remains of dunp myself as well as interviewed the dozer drive. Trouble is the water table has risen and I suspect the stuff is by now mush. But who knows – anybody who wants to go after it is welcome to my info – I don’t live there anymore and I don’t have the time.
Lismore NSW – There is a fairey Battle buried in the council Depot – gifted to the town after the war it was going to be displayed on a pole but they changed their mind and buried it in the depot. The propellor survived and is on the wall at Casino airport. Again I spoke to the guy who buried it many years ago and because it is well drained there it should be OK – the council was at one stage prepared to let me dig it up. This story is easily verified in Lismore – go to it and have fun!!

We have a Chinook Wokka in our basement and it only fitted because the rotors and gearboxes were removed! Actually we do! It came from 78 Sqn in the Falklands and is now used for Loadie training.

we also have such stories here in Switzerland . as you probably will know, we have many airfields in the mountains where more or less only a runway is visible, all hangars, maintenance facilities, etc. are within the mountains, i.e. caverns. Some of these caverns are still in active use today.
There is this story that pops up every now and then, that some of the aircraft interned in World War II were not returned or scrapped, but stored in remote or ‘sealed off’ places within such caverns. I’ve heard Bf-110G Night Fighter, Dh-98 Mosquito, Fiat G-50, and also B-17 and B-24 components. Further to that, former Swiss AF aircraft such as Bf-109’s, P-51’s, etc should also be hidden somewhere.
All this is wishful thinking – but maybe………..????????

Interesting Jeepman, Sound’s great if only true mate,
I have heard of certain Aladin’s cave’s in different part’s of the World at time’s over the 25 year’s,
There was even one out here about Spitfire’s still in packing crate’s down a mine shaft somewhere in outback Oz.
I have never heard of them being found yet, but who know’s it’s a big big place to hide something.
Cheer’s all, Tally Ho! Ho! Phil.

Not as far-fetched as it might sound. I remember a while ago there was a newspaper article regarding buried aircraft and armament (eg, BOMBS!) buried somewhere, maybe even at one of the airports. Damned if I can recall where, though… 🙁
From what I can remember, they were under either one of the buildings or the runway (my bet is the latter).

Hi
I had heard of a project to extend the London underground an put in a stop in the tunnel for aircraft nerds like us to explore it. I believe all the aircraft are being restored and painted in Red Bull colors for some reason………

I know, this is dynamite. Reliable sources, who can’t be named for obvious reasons, tell me there’s probably a dozen 190’s there in various states of assembly, all in top condition. And there are whispers of there also being a handful of late model advanced types, two (yes two!) Arado 234Cs, a Dornier 335, an HE177 and some HE219s that were based there for defensive purposes.
