A little known lancaster wreck

Hello chaps.
there has been a lot of talk recently about lancaster wrecks and remains and my good friend tony jarvis sent me some great pics that he said I can share with you of a lancaster at resolute NWT. THe aircraft is FM221 and as you can see in the pics, there is quite a bit left of this aircraft following its crash.

Cost esitmates were investigated and they were prohibitive at the time.. Not sure what the future may bring for this wreck

going from memory I believe it was a landing or takeoff accident that claimed poor 221. The merlins appear to have been salvaged shortly after the crash. It would be interesting to know why the cockpit was so heavly damaged and how…

Is anyone planning/hoping to recover it before it’s totally gone back to the elements?

I’d imagine that if it was easy to recover then they’d have taken more of it back then. Some of the pictures seem to imply that it was shot down…;) – Nermal

Wow, comparing it to the photo on Martin’s link, the ravages of time have been very cruel. A pity it wasn’t so complete as back then.

Is anyone planning/hoping to recover it before it’s totally gone back to the elements?

Ah now, if it was a Spitfire it could be rebuilt to fly!

(OK, so I’m a bit of a cynic…)

Finally! A wreck that I could possibly visit! 🙂

Nice pics Peter. Did anyone from this machine survive? I don’t have the Lancaster Files.

Cheers,
