Robertsbridge Aviation Collection

Hello guys and gals 🙂

On my way back from a lovely day in the country on Sunday, I spotted a sign for the Robertsbridge Aviation Museum, just off the A21 at Robertsbridge (surprisingly, ha! :D) We were on our way home by this point, and it was getting dark so I only caught a glimpse of the sign as we whizzed past. My father has borrowed this month’s Flypast, including the accompanying aviation museum guide, so I cannot check that to see what is there. I have googled it, and although it does not appear to have a website of it’s own, I did find this: http://www.villagenet.co.uk/esussex-iron/attractions/content/robertsbridge-aviationmus.html

So, have any of you visited? Is it worth making the trip back down for? Maybe combined with a trip to Tangmere? Or heading in the other direction, Brenzett? Forum meet? Fish and chips on the beach front at Hastings?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Anybody visited Robertsbridge lately ?

If so, do you have any photo’s and/or an update on that burnt Su-7 nose section ?

Cheers…..

They do host talks and things – Philip Baldock is the man behind it if memory serves me correctly. they have a section of Whitley undercarriage.

Nope dont think they have the MiG hulk -thats at the Fenland and West Norfolk – a top bunch of chaps with an ace museum by the way – they kindly loaned us a Hurri 1 merlin for display – i have tried to get to see the Robertsbridge Museum for at least 10 years i think they open at odd hours and are more of a ‘collecting society’ – that may be unfair but they are never open when i’ve been past 🙁 – that said i wrote to them about an engine last year and they were absolutely charming…maybe a manpower issue?

Re: Fenland museum

TexanTomcat…you wouldn’t have a contact number for the Fenland museum would you? Can’t seem to find anything on the internet and I have a couple of questions for them…

Cheers

If your going down that way Brenzett museum is well worth a visit, then go on down to the coast on the eastern side of dungeness power station by the lighthouse ,theres a great cafe there and a pub. And somewhere around there is a or was a grave marker for a crashed polish spitfire pilot .

If you’re looking for something to do, or somewhere to meet, on Easter Sunday (or any Sunday after that), why not come and check us out? We’ve got some really nice new exhibits for this year, and did I mention the four pubs in the village (for Sunday lunch of course)?

I’ve been, albeit a few years ago and I thought it was superb although a bit “chaotic”. I dare say it’s more organised now. Loads of recovered items – engines, turrets etc. plus a few airframes/cockpit sections. I’ll dig out some pics if you’re interested.

I need to go there this year, they have a few lumps of my stuff on show including a replica 500lb bomb from the Memphis Belle film. They have an outstation display at the delightful Newhaven Fort, well worth a visit Ashley.
Regards
Tony
