An enquiry borne of curiosity. What is a Vulcan worth as pure scrap metal? Can anyone hazard a guess as to what a scrappy might make by selling off the ‘collector friendly’ bits and then scrapping that which is of no/little interest to the enthusiasts?

It sat in their yard for quite a few weeks whilst they supposedly looked for a ‘genuine’ buyer, and at every enquiry (which I understand there were many – mostly from dreamers) the price went up.

Even though the interior was in a very bad way, I have pretty much everything that could have refitted it out to a good display standard, but I couldn’t get anywhere near their rediculous asking price, and they just got fed up of people asking them about it.

They were also not at all interested in selling any of the parts either – I wanted the set of vernier plates off the top of the throttle box and a few other minor bits to finish the restoration of mine, and they just weren’t interested. Typical ‘general’ scrappers really. 😡

Sadly the interior of the cockpit had been well and truly vandalificated well before she got the chop anyway…

Ouch indeed!!

A group from up here in Nth. West made an attempt to save the Cockpit, but scrappies wouldn’t hear of it. It was damaged during Aircraft demolition anyway and was scrapped I believe at their yard a short while later. 🙁

Blackpool Vulcan

How very sad, she didn’t look too clever the last time I saw her.

Thank you all for your answers, links etc. This is a very busy and efficient forum.

And under the current government those responsible for such wanton destruction and vandalism won’t even get an ASBO.

I think your right OAG

I thyink that is the best thing for ir as to be a cockpit section that would be both easier and cheaper to both move and also to restore…. 🙂

PETER
visited Blackpool on Tuesday 25th Jan as part of Oxfordshire Aviation Group(www.communigate.co.uk/oxford/oag) tour of airfields in NW England. The Vulcan was parked by some light aircraft hangars in the SW corner of the airfield(was this her usual location???).She was intact but otherwise in quite a sorry state…sad to say but gut-feeling makes me think there’s only one way out for her and a cockpit section will be the best we get
