Help Choose a Corsair Paint Scheme.

I’m trying to find a good paint scheme for an FG1D Corsair that is being restored here in the states. If anybody has any ideas, I’d love to hear them. If you have any pictures and don’t want to post them, feel free to email me. mexicanbob@hotmail.com

Here’s the ground rules that I have to work with.
1. Must be in American markings
2. glossy sea blue or tri-color
3. accurate for an FG1D (or any other 3-bladed version)
4. No skull and crossbones
5. A paint scheme that isn’t currently in use.
6. One that has significance in the Pacific North West gets bonus points (Seattle NAS, Sand Point NAS)

Thanks!

Hi,

Can anybody tell me how long it takes to open the main gear doors and how long it takes to lower and raise the gear.

Also, how long to fold the wings.

I need this information so that I can get the timings right for the 1/6th scale model I am still trying to build.

Hope you can help.

Yes this is the right place – am building a Ziroli Corsair myself and am looking at these colour schemes – this is all I have been able to find so far despite numerous web searches.

By the way the Corsair didn’t fly with the USAF or RAF – but with the Fleet Air Arm and United States Navt & Marines!

Good luck

Jason

Thanks Jason,

I have just been punting around and found this site www.fleetairarm.com/index2.htm. I thought it might interest you. Go to the Corsair Project.

Has anyone ever painted a Corsair as one of Pappy Boyingtons aircraft?

Thought I’d mention that the restoration of the Corsair is moving along well but we are still looking for paint suggestions.

Also, the decision has finally been made. The rear seat and door will be removed and the aft fuselage returned to original condition. In fact, the work is in progress.

model corsair

Hello All,

I have just joined this forum. In fact it is the first forum I have ever joind so all advice would be most welcome.

I am currently building a 1/6th scale flying model which I hope to display at the BMFA national championships one day. To this end I would like to base the model on a real aircraft. This should be from the RAF stock rather than the USAF.

I need a BS or RAL colour spec for the deep blue they used.

Is this the write place to ask for this kind of help?

The three paint schemes I mentioned, borrowed from ‘Corsair Aces of WWII’, the VMF 111 machine #122 with all its bombing mission credits, the VF 84 machine off of the Bunker Hill (minus the yellow ring on the front of the engine), and the ‘FF-59′ machine from the USS Cape Gloucester’ similar to the Cavanaugh museum’s TBM paint scheme…

Ok…first up, no one I know has honored ‘Ol’ 122′, the Corsair that flew with (if I recall) VMF-111 and recieved a citation as the only plane in that squadron to have never turned back from a mechanical failure…it has bomb mission tallies all over it, like a B-17 would have…don’t have a pic of it…

Second, a Corsair painted up in a similar motif to the Cavanaugh flight museum TBM, with the white markings and the thin yellow stripes…have seen this on Corsairs from WWII and it’s very attractive…

A Corsair from the Bunker hill, with the white arrow on the tail and the yellow or white cowling…also very attractive….

Has anyone ever painted up a Corsair in British Fleet air arm markings in recent times?

Nope, the plan is to leave it like it is. That’s all subject to change as stuff progresses.

Which Corsair would this be, Mex? I have several ideas I’ll get around to talking to you about later today…
