Another pic from the wee airshow

Hiya,

A very good friend of mine has taken some pics of the Masterton Airshow last weekend.
I’m currently in negotiations with him to display all of them here.

Here’s a teaser..

Forget the Dakota, what about some more of the Catalina?

Can you believe that is the only Catalina I’ve ever seen flying, sadly it wasn’t in military colours at the time. I’ve been to about 25 airshows in the USA in the last 7 years, and not a single Catalina at any of them, nor have I heard of any Catalinas flying in the States. I don’t doubt that there are some, I’m just amazed how rare they are.

Richard.

Cats are gorgeous aeroplanes. I was lucky enough to see Plane Sailing’s one at East Fortune one year (I think not too long before her mishap at Southampton), and instantly fell in love with them!

Haven’t seen one since, though! 🙁

Turbo, nice shots mate, thank your mate for us please. 🙂

Just one question regarding the Messenger – Union Jack on the centre fin…? I don’t want to prompt the “it’s the owner’s aeroplane, he can paint it how he likes” brigade, it just looks a bit odd that’s all.

Do you chaps realise that this month marks 20 years since that P51D’s first airshow performance in this country. It is twenty years since Sir Tim Wallis set the warbirds movement in NZ alight. Amazing.

Every airshow I’ve been to it’s been there.
Truly a historic warbird in the NZ Warbird scene, let alone the real age of the beauty.

Thanks, Gnome.

Those high speed passes by the Corsair with the P-40 in hot pursuit were truly awesome…sorta stuff that makes you tingle all over 😀
