Hi All – tried to upload some more photos but no joy – anyway here are the measurements as promised (if you want something done….) 😀

Height – approx 52cm (22″)
Width – 69cm (27″)
Length 74cm (29″)

Does that help?

All the best

I’m surprised nobody spotted that the pilot of ‘Little Demon’ appears to be giving his twin brother a ride 😉

Indeed, that was scary at first!! 😀
(“must give up with chianti someday!” 😀 😀 😀 )

Alex

P.S.
If u look at the latest b/w shot though the sides seems to be more “bubbly” than the one ben has..

Found this image. It sure looks the same down to the bracing in the front lower corner.

Even I’m inclined to go along with that having seen it.

The Stutsman twins.

🙂 That is Ray Stutsman giving his twin brother ‘Roy’ a backseat ride. 😉

Spot on Dan.

It even shows the ‘bendy’ lower metalwork attachment.

This component needs to go in a museum.

Mark

I concur !

Well done, Dan !

I also think that we have here an ultra rare P-47 Malcolm Hood – some of the 5th ERS ships were equipped like this

nope

Agreed.

I am still with Dan Johnson on this one.

The Malcolm conversion to the ‘Razor Back’ P-47, from the photograph, shows that the original frame and slider was retained and just the four side and two top glazed panels were replaced with the ‘Malcolm bubble’.

The strait side and top curved profile fit.

The symmetric and vertical end hoops fit.

The lower mounting fixings are engineeringly plausible

All we need is someone to run a tape over the principal dimensions on the ‘Malcolm bubble’ and to compare with ‘Little Demon’.

A very interesting thread.

Has anyone considered that it may be from a Corsair? Some of them had what looked like a Malcolm hood with, as far as I can recall, flat sides.

Mike,

I am not a Corsair expert but a brief google shows all the canopies with asymmetric front and rear hoops not at 90 degrees to the slider.

Taking up on Dan Johnson’s point, and also the ‘bendy sliders’ referred to by Robbo I believe, from an engineering standpoint I can see how using the hood in question, with its fixings, the forward panels of a P-47 ‘Razor back’ could be removed and replaced with said item. The main frame of the ‘Razor back’ canopy and its sliders would be retained.

Hmmm. Since it would have been adapted to the Razorback canopy frame there would be no runners on the Malcom hood. That fits too.

Any chance it’s the version that was adapted to the razorback P47D canopy? They would have had the straight edge like the one shown.Dan

Dan,

Vertical at both ends and the profile certainly look good for the P-47.

Compare to ‘Swiss’ Martin’s photo.
