ex-Irish Air Corps bi-plane for sale !

Former Irish Air Corps (IAC) bi-plane, Avro Cadet C7, is currently for sale in New Zealand.
It was fully restored to flying condition (and original IAC colour scheme !) some years ago, and is a regular at NZ airshows. I believe the price is c.US$200,000.

Any chance somebody would buy her and bring her back to the Northern Hemisphere (Ireland or the UK) ?

I have no idea of what it is worth…. I would just like to see it back in Ireland (or the UK).

Apparently the seller is looking for “offers of over $200,000 USD” .
Perhaps he is hoping that the Irish Air Corps Museum will pay that kind of money ?
Unfortunetly, they do not have those kind of funds available at present.

A quick on-line currency conversion puts that at about £76,000, which is perhaps a little less than T6 money, in the region of a really tidy Stearman, so high yes, but not stratospheric, especially with a bit of effective negotiation. Probably another thousand or so to ship it to UK. Lets bring her home.

Sadly people readily associate 1930’s biplanes with the likes of the Gipsy Moth and Tiger. Unless the price is in a similar area i.e 30-60K there isn’t likely to be a huge amount of interest in the Cadet.

Cadet

Shuttleworth of course have the expertise to operate this aircraft.

The price of aircraft – especially one-off’s – is very much a case of ‘worth what somebody is prepared to pay’. Sadly, there aren’t queues of people for old planes like this, the market is very small.

If it were half that money I’d book a ticket today.

It is a gorgeous aircraft though, seen here at the Ardmore airshow in February 2003

‘Rare’ presents its own set of problems, maintenance and parts wise. A ‘one of a kind plane’, while nice to have, might sit in the back of a hangar gathering dust for fear of breaking it and not being able to fix it…but I agree it would be nice to see flying somewhere…and I bet it’ll find a buyer….but at maybe a reduced price from where it now sits.

Genet Major engine.(?) How many of those in running order?

Maintanance would be pro rata more challanging than a big round widely supported US engine (again)

Looks like originality and rarity does not count (again)

Sad. I agree it seems rather overpriced though.

Yeah you could buy this plane (nice as it is)….or a TBM or T-6!

Hi

No doubt she is a great and historic aircraft but the price does make one rather gasp when you consider what is available for that money. Most of the worlds remaining closely related Cadets are in Australia and when sold they go nowhere near that money. I also believe there are enough bits in NZ to put another together for a lot less money so – Lovely to look at but not with my $200,000.00 thanks.

Regards
