a wee airshow downunder

Well folks, this weekend we have a local airshow, Wings over Wairarapa, at Masterton, a small town in the SE of the North Island of NZ. It is being hosted by the NZ Sport & Vintage Aviation Society
http://svas.org.nz/

I plan/hope to go, taking my wee lad Josh – he’s 4 and will be totally thrilled – and I suspect Dad’ll find it not too bad a day out either

Over 70 aircraft are scheduled to take part including …
– some WWI replicas ~ Avro 504K, Bristol Fighter, Sopwith Camel, 2 Fokker Triplanes and a Nieuport
– other biplanes ~ Tiger Moths, Piper Cubs, Staggerwing and Dominie
– a tribute to Edgar Percival ~ EP 9, Proctor, Piston Provost
– some WWII warbirds ~ Harvards, DC-3, Catalina, FG-1, P-40, P51, Miles Messenger and Me108
– an Eastern Bloc 9 ship formation ~ NanChangs and Yak 52s
– some 50s & 60s military utilities ~ Bird-dog, Chipmunks, Devon
– a Giles 202 serious aerobatic toy
– a couple of Jets ~ L39C Albatross and Vampire T55
– and a bunch of other things, top-dressers, choppers …

I’ll tote my not-at-all-pro Sony digicam with sod-all memory and maybe, if any number of flukes all occur at once, I may come back with a handful of half-decent photos for you all 😉

Never thought of that! I’ve been battling with the Sony Image Mixer stuff – anyway, I’ve popped some shots on your thread 😉

I just use MS Paint and stretch/skew.

Foolproof system and keeps the resolution okay

They’ll be back up in a while – I’m having software probs – stuggling to crop and resize photos – simple stuff you may think, but a pain with unfamilar software.

BTW – there is hope for us yet. I’ve been thinking that I’d like to go get my ppl but, you know, in my 40’s and all that. Well get out of the garden gnome. The commentator was raving on about how fit you have to be to fly serious aerobatics, what with all the +/- 6Gs and so on. Tells us how fit the nutcase pilot of the Giles 202 (Doug Brooker) is and then drops in that he’s 60! Holy sheet, there’s time for me to pull my finger out 😉

Go for it Don, 40’s so what! get that PPL 😉 Then you will have real freedom 😀 :diablo: Anna 😉

Don, who was flying the Corsair? Is Keith Skilling still flying it these days?

And has it been returned to RNZAF colours? Or does it still wear the stars and bars?

Red nosed gnome

Got burned to a cinder (lovely day 😎 ) and snapped off a roll (yes only one bein’ non-pro and all) on the Nikon. And took an arbitrary array of shots and movs on the Sony but it was so bright I couldn’t see the screen to see what I was doing. Wil post the SLR stuff when developed and CD’d. And have a couple of passable digi shots I’ll put up when I figure out how to get past the 100k limit (taVM Robbo, will try otherwise crop/shrink).

Lot’s of good stuff. Highlights pour moi …
FG-1 Corsair – it was flying about with a bunch of other WWII metal but it ruled. Lovely high speed lowlevel wingovers on the flight line.
Maniac in the Giles aerobatic thing – painted purple with the word NUT on the fuselage. Tail sliding all the way down to inverted 6G loop … arrgghhh
2 Vampires whizzing about the place in mini formation … squeeeeeeeooosh
And the ag pilot redefining what it means to fly at 50ft (as in, drop the zero guys) 😉

Pics to follow … cheers D
