Anybody know where and when this unusual formation took place. And does anybody have a better pic.

I saw them practicing while at Coningsby on ATC Camp for a week in 1985; an F3 and the Spit XIX with D-Day stripes and coded DL-E, can’t remember the serial. Great week, that was, ended up sitting deep in the bowels of the Lancaster while the boys ran up the engine that they’d just been tinkering with. That was my reward for passing one of them a spanner… 😀

Mk XIX – PM631 = DL-E. Got some nice air to air of that one, I’ll dig em out and put them on for you.

The blenheim/tornado formation was seen at Finningley (1993) as Steve says, the BBMF were still doing the F3/Spit formation as late as 1992 (Coningsby) too…

From my memory didn’t the BBMF do a synchro routine with a spit and and F2/3 for a year in the mid 80’s?
Bloomin’ marvellous it was too1

It was one of the Griffon engined PR machines, and it was indeed Bloomin marvelous.

Oh! Some of those shiny interceptor things.

AB910 at the 50th Anniversary of 92 Squadron bash.

Geilsenkirchen November 1967.

Scanned from an original photograph with thanks to an unknown photographer.

Pretty certain there was a similar formation at Finningley one year. They also managed to get a Hawk and Gnat up together, along with a Spitfire and Tornado F3.

Note to self – get that box of photos down from the loft one day….
