Seeking Mosquito veterans

Hello guys and gals 🙂

The IWM is seeking former Mosquito aircrew to attend the impending rollout of its recently restored Mosquito. If you know of any former Mossie crew who might be interested, please could you contact either Tracey or Sally in the Marketing Department – their contact details can be found in the following press release:

WARTIME FLYERS GET CALL-UP FROM DUXFORD!

The Imperial War Museum Duxford will soon be rolling out a newly restored wartime de Havilland Mosquito aircraft and are seeking former ‘Mossie’ air crew from the region to attend the event. The veterans will be guests of honour when the historic aircraft is rolled out at the Museum in a few weeks time.

The Mosquito is one of the greatest ever combat aircraft and served in the Royal Air Force in a variety of roles including bomber, nightfighter and ‘spyplane’. It was, until 1944, the world’s fastest combat aircraft and was in RAF service from 1941 to 1953. Many served from bases in the East of England. Duxford’s Mosquito, TA719, was built in Luton during the Second World War. Post-war it was converted to tow practice targets so that RAF, Royal Navy and Army pilots and gunners could perfect their shooting skills.

The Mosquito has been restored to take its place in Duxford’s new £24 million pound AirSpace exhibition set to open in 2006. Supported by £9 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £995,000 by the East of England Development Agency, AirSpace will tell the story of Britain’s aviation industry from its earliest days to the present.

Former Mosquito aircrew who would like to attend the roll out of Duxford’s Mosquito can contact Tracey Woods, Marketing and Public Relations Manager on 01223 499320 or Sally Welsh on 01223 499321.

When I have a confirmed date for the rollout, I will let you know (yes Stewart, you in particular…you didn’t think I’d let the Mossie be rolled out without telling you first, did you? ;))
