Evenin’ all,
What are peoples thoughts about preserving a couple of 748’s in this country? It’s a slowly dying breed and played an important part in the story of civil aviation in post war Britain. The airliner collection at Duxford perhaps? Maybe retire XW750 to Cosford?

I seem to remember the cockpit of G-ARAY is still in a scrapyard (Stock?) down south somewhere. Im surprised no one snaffled that up.

I certainly hope a few of these birds get preserved. Emerald are still flying a series 1 I believe, surely a prime candidate for preservation. One particular airframe, G-ATMJ has had a very interesting life & deserves serious consideration in my opinion.
If it comes down to just one, I would have to choose XW750. During the mid to late 60’s I spent many a happy Saturday morning ‘playing’ in this aircraft, at Staverton airport, whilst my father carried out routine maintenance on this & the other aircraft (Dove & Varsity) in the Smith Aviation fleet. I caught the avition bug then & I have never recovered. 🙂

Certianly worth preserving as they have been around a long time now.
Emerald are now bringing in their ATP’s so should be a few available? Or they will end up in Africa like the Andovers? Would have likes to have seen one of the old CAA machines preserved.
