Howard Hughes, What didn't the Guy do!!!,Question about his Bendix Me-262 racer.

I am yet to find much out about this, So I will just ask a few bit’s  .

How did it go in the racing  .

HOW did he keep it flying 😮 😮 (did his rebuild include engine’s and lot’s of them  ).

Was his a Civil 262 😮 , and if so was it the only Civil 262 ever  .

Go Howie you never stop amazing me mate R.I.P 😉 .

This is the supposed plane after he had a fighter type nose fitted.

Cheer’s all 😀 , Tally :dev2: Ho! :dev2: Ho! Phil :diablo: .

Ahh so he did not get to race it, Poor Howie, thought he nearly owned the Gov at the time.
Thank’s guy’s, And yes at that time it would have Sh*t on everything that the rest of the Yankie boy’s could put up and keep going,

I was just wondering if he managed to get hold of a stash of jumo’s or what re-enginening he managed with all his dosh at the time.

Cheer’s all, Tally Ho! Ho! Phil.

Hi Dave,

I’m away from my references at the moment, can you enlighten me on what happened to this one. Is it a survivor?

IIRC it was with PoF and then sold to a private for rebuild to original condition.

That’s right, he was forbidden to race the 262. This was originally a PR jet, but the nose was swapped with the NASM aircraft during testing.

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that he was forbidden to race the 262 against US jets of the era for fear it might outhine them…
