..here is a seat that I owned in the mid 1970’s. It had German data plates and originally had come from Cranfield, so it might be from one of the evaluation airframes/structures that arrived there post war.
Unfortunately it was the only item that would spring a trade I was desperate to make happen and it went.
Any ideas as to aircraft type and location therein? 🙂

Even with a parachute and flying clobber on it looks blooming uncomfortable for long periods of being strapped into.

Well, I doubt, that it is from a JU 388 because of two reasons:
The Ju 88 had a later pilot seat, which also covered the pilot´s head with it´s shape. That one I found looking like Mark´s was an “early” Ju 88 seat.
I guess, Ju 388 came later and so they didn´t use the early seat anymore. Also the small part of a Ju 388 seat I can see on some pictures won´t fit.
But who know´s? That´s after all only speculation. :confused:

When I take a look at that picture of the Ju 88 R-1 in Hendon then I would think we´ve got it. 🙂

Mark 12 – you beat me to it – in 109s isn’t the seat attached to the rear cockpit bulkhead – so I was going to suggest Bomber, Recce or Maritime instead where the seat is floor mounted.
if it came from Cranfield then it follows that it might be salvaged from one of the LW aircraft that appeared there after the war – the Ju 388L might be the most likely candidate in such circumstances
Otherwise it might just be part of the 1000 tons (!!!) of LW equipment garnered and shipped to Cranfield as part of Operation Medico – including trial pieces – is the seat back more reclined than the norm??

My own view is that it is unlikely to be an Me109 seat where the pilot effectively sits on the fuel tank. There is too much available fuel space under that seat frame I suspect. I favour a transport or a bomber where a flat flight deck is more likely to prevail.

Looks like ‘109 to me – IIRC the pilot sits at quite a reclined angle, when compared to, say, a Spit or Hurricane.

Off-hand, it looks too curved at the head to be 109e, but I could be wrong. I certainly don’t have any suggestions of my own at first look. I’d have a look at our 109 but I have to get on the road I’m afraid.
