Armed Chipmunks ?

I was chatting with one of the guys at work yesterday about the article on Chippie’s out in Cyprus. He mentioned that he recalled seeing something somewhere about the possibility of arming Chippies with either 2 X Browning Mg’s or 2 X 250lb bombs !

I personally havent heard of this and wondered if you guys have anything on the subject ?

I seem to recall in the early ’80’s that the Army Air Corps operated a camouflaged Chipmunk, i can’t remember what it was used for or wether it had hard points/guns etc. Unofficially known as the Spitmunk.

Can’t recall any with any type with a weapons hardpoint so unless it’s canopy slid back and a revolver in your hand I think the answer is no!

Thanks for your replies guys.

The article I was refering to is indeed in the latest Flypast.

However, I’ve re-read it again and can see no mention of arming Chipmunks.

Infact my original text did not specify the Cyprus Chipmunks, but was aimed at anybody who had information about any trials or test’s or research into arming the Chipmunk.

Isn’t this mentioned in an article in either this month’s or last month’s Flypast (84 Sqn?)?
