No, that is stock footage of a Hurricane. The episode is “The Day The Balloon Went Up”. I am talking about the 1971 Columbia Pictures big screen version, not BBC.
Two other aircraft are seen in the series from memory. One is the Heinkel in the film, and also in the episode ‘Come In, Your Time Is Up’ an aircraft is seen too. It looks like a Britten Norman Islander from memory but represents a Dornier 17 or similar.
Some may be interested that they used former RAF Watton in the episode “Round and Round Went The Great Big Wheel” and a lot of other famous wartime East Anglian locations crop up in the series too. Plus after hours the cast would sometimes go off to Mildenhall or the other USAF base near Theford for a night out.

there is footage of a Spitfire I think in the episode where Capt Mainwaring is hanging from a barrage balloon cable.
Is this the one you’re thinking of?

Dad’s Army does indeed wear well, although the film is a bit naff because it was made by Americans and an Irish director who hadn’t much of a clue what the show was about. Incidentally, I run the Dad’s Army Apprciation Society New Zealand Branch!!
I don’t have the film on DVD I’m afraid, but in the sequence the men are on their way to their exercise in the van with the gas bag on the roof. Some of them including Mainwaring are cycling ahead of the van. They see the Spitfire and Mainwaring calls for the famous van rifle drill “Open-two-three, up-two-three, bang-two-three” but not only is it not a Stuka, Jones has his bayonet attached and pops the gas bag. Since the van has no gas, they are late and miss supper.

😮 Well I can’t even remember the incident and I am a fan of ‘Dad’s Army’.
Well with the ‘super doop’ technology whereby you can freeze and download a still from a DVD, can anybody show the forum an image for starters?
Incidentally doesn’t ‘Dad’s Army’ wear well over the years?
