Rumbold's Renegades

Good New Year to all.

Been sent and asked about the painting shown here, especially the “Rumbold’s Renegades” bit. With all the knowledgeable types here I thought someone may be able to come up with a bit of background to the event depicted or the “Rumbold” of the title.

However, can anybody provide any further information on the participants, Sqn Ldr Rumbold in particular.
