Deffo not a Beech – the fins are wrong ona Beech Model 18 the horizontal stab does not extend past the fin/rudder-

BTW – AT11s didnt carry torpedoes only small practice bombs and sometimes a Crocker-Wheeler turret for gunnery training…

If anyone is still in doubt, check the available payload of the Beech 18 after it has fuel and then check the weight of a Torpedo (generally v. heavy)

If they don’t match then it didn’t happen.

You can spray paint COW on the backside of a MOOSE but it’s still a cow. It’s easily verified, if a few other people look at it and say “ya know…..I’m pretty sure that’s a moose”.

it’s a free country (both here and where you are).
So we’ll agree to differ. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I still think it’s a Lockheed PV-1 Ventura.

Agree, One-hundred percent.

You two beat me to it.
I’m not sure the Ventura ever launched torpedoes though.
There was a short air-launched torpedo used by the US Navy. I’ll have a look in my references in the morning and see if it was ever carried by PV-1’s.

Cheers

Here it is…

Here’s the XA-38…

If you think it’s crazy, beech even produced drawings of a Model 17 Staggerwing-based ground attack aircraft.

XA-38

They did make 2 prototypes of an oversize Model 18 called the XA-38 Grizzly Beech Model 28…Beech says it was not based on the 18). It was twin-tailled and powered by a pair of Wright 3350s (2300 hp). It would have been armed with a 75 mm cannon with torpedoes as an alternate weapon.

Basically, it looks like a narrow B-25.

Yep thats an AT-11 must have been a very small torpedo! Think we need to see the pic agent86. Only thing I can think of is it might be a lockheed 14, but even with those they were not torpedo equiped???

The AT-11 version was a bomber trainer version with a transparant nose. Thought they were used by the USAAF purely to drup small dummy bombs, there can’t be much clearance for a torpedo below the aircraft????

Might be the wrong sort, not upto speed on the ’18, but I took these at Oshkosh this year and there aint much ground clearance under the fuselage….unless they hung one under wing root ?
