Hi all,
Are the Spitfires still in store at Cosford and what are the plans for them in the near future. Will they be used in swaps for the RAF Museum?
Mmm would make a nice swap for a Douglas Boston/Havoc

I agree with Elliott – A-20 A-20 A-20 PLEEEEEEZE…
1) there are projects available – in the US and Oz
2) They are VERY relevant
3) there aint that many left
Mind you David has a point with the Cotton Electra…….

Rob- the ‘low back’ TE311 seems to be receiving attention far removed from spares recovery so I wouldn’t write her off yet. As for the ‘high back’ TE382
-she seems to have been consumed .
Breaks my heart about TE382 since she’s a 602 Squadron vet.
Second on my wish list to EN224 should I win the lottery š

Will – I think the emphasis on the Spitfire in the RAFM might be alright as it stands. To spend millions restoring these Spitfires and house them whilst other aircraft are still wanted doesn’t strike me as viable.
I would like to see the former Sydney Cotton Electra Junior or an ex BOAC Lodestar join and add a little more flavour to the place.

There should have been two more had not the two ex RAF exhibition flights mk16’s TE311 and TB382 had been quietly donated for spares to the BBMF. How much did these contribute to flyers seeing they are different mk’s than their flyers?

Yes, I hope they get one soon. š

Well, stranger things have happened. The Halifax was on their list 35 years ago…!

I am led to believe that the RAFM shopping list includes a Baltimore but no replicas – a policy reversal after the influx of new-build WW1 aeroplanes under past management. Now, just let me count how many Baltimores survive …

There are 5 at Stafford Mks. 19, 21, 22 & two 16sā. Only one of these was on show at Cosford. The others went form Cardington to Wyton to Stafford.

It wouldnt surprise me if this is kept reasonably close to their chest in order to limit any price speculation that may happen.
In any case it would spoil the surprise š
It wouldn’t take a brain box to work out what is on the list….look at the list of aircraft types used prolifically by the RAF (say, in numbers greater than 5), subtract the types they already have, cook on gas mark 5 and voila….your list! So go on chappies go for it!
To further refine the list, you could remove aircraft definitely extinct/for which no one is planning a decent replica.
If you want a spitty, build them a decent Whirlwind replica and swap it!

Yes, they are apparently at Stafford now, Cosford was a short term storage point, a shame as a little green house on the side of the new cold war building could have been a brilliant ‘Spitfire Gallery’. (Bearing in mind they had probably six or seven on site from the very early mark one to a mark twentysomething  ).
Off to raid the loft for anything to swap for a PR19 š

Yes but if you don’t know what they after, you are not to know what to go looking for! Catch 22!

Does anyone know what is on this famous “wish list”
(other than the obvious:
Stirling
Whitley
Whirlwind
Buffalo

They are essentialy retained as swaps for the RAF Museums ‘wish list ‘ of desirable aircraft. There could be an entire thread of conjecture at the items on this list, real as it is.
