Convair 340 ditches

A Convair 340 ditched in a lake in Florida. The pilots decided that they wouldn’t make the airport and surrounded by houses the lake was the safest bet. They escaped. See:- http://www.aero-news.net/news/commair.cfm?ContentBlockID=53992c77-abf2-4cb7-8a5f-5da864ec90b4&Dynamic=1

I think maybe “the one and only God who goes by many names” had a wee game, playing a win-win hand – drops Bush in the swamp (win), and allows the pilots to save the day (win).

Back on topic, are there many Convairs left and is this one likely to be salvaged to rebuild or scrapped, assuming it is retrievable from the water 🙂

Have to agree with you mmitch, some people are very quick to reply with a quip, whereas no one has said how well the pilots did to prevent what could have been a catastrophe…they were true professionals.

I was a bit more impressed with the lives saved. A forced landing on houses doesn’t bare thinking about. 🙁
