Hello, I am searching for a good quality 35mm colour slide (can be a copy) of the Shackleton that sits on top of Viks Viking Garage in Johannesburg, Sth Africa. I belive it has been seen in three colour schemes, yellow, coca cola and recently I have heard it is now in a telecommunications company’s c/s. I would like a copy of all if possible, also the Viking that was originally there. I don’t want much do I? I am willing to pay for all costs incurred for good quality slides of this aircraft. I really do hope there is somebody out there one and is willing to sell it to me. I can be contacted at garyshack@aol.com. Thanking people(s) in advance. Kindest regards. Keep up the good work on the magazine, it’s a great one and I look forward to it every month. 🙂

Shackleton on Viks Viking Garage
Hello VC-10 fan,
Another lovely aeroplane, I flew back from Singapore in 1969 on one of them, I was nine years of age! Loved it. I have some interesting slides of the aircraft as well.
Many thanks for your computer help as well, will try that next time. The people who put the photo’s on the net have been very kind and sent them to me via e-mail. I should try and get more knowledgeable with computers, I have just got the abacus sorted out! Thanks again. 🙂

Hi, Many thanks. Unfortunately it will only save it as an art image or a bitmap and for some reason or another I am only seeing a blank picture!
I sometimes get that too, it usually happens when a page has been open for a few minutes. Try reloading the page, scroll straight to the images and right-click on them. When you select Save image as… it should now give you a name and the ability to save as a JPEG.
Another interesting Shack site here: http://www.home.aone.net.au/shack_one/

Amazing – anyone care to post a potted history of SA Shackletons for the ignorant – there seem to be, or have been, plenty of them?

That should be fixed if you empty your ‘temporary internet files’ folder.

Hi,
Fantastic shots or what!!!!! Am I able to copy these to my computer please? If so how? I am still a bit of a novice on these new fangled gadgets!!
Gary
No problem with mine – just put your cursor over the photo and press the right button on the mouse which will bring up a ‘save as’ option, then save it as a JPEG preferably. Enjoy!

Here they are – the Viking, ZS-DKH, there on 27 November 1980, which was taken to the South African Airways Historic Flight in exchange for the Shackleton MR.3, 1723, which is seen there in December 1987. Think it’s still there, but don’t have a recent photo.
