Winter Maintenance…Round 2

Conversation as overheard at the hanger by the mechanics…

“Ohhh, we’ve taken the Sea Fury apart…what can we do next?”

“I know, let’s take the T-6 apart!”

“Yea, great idea!!!”

“But what if Steve wants to fly?”

Just tell him they’re all broken, he’s a pilot so he won’t know any different. Ah ha ha ha ha ha (insert evil mechanics laugh here).

I think I’m to much of an Engineer at heart – I’m starting to like ’em better with their clothes off and their bits hanging out. Or is it just a male thing? :diablo:

Most excellent photo. You look just like your grandfather.
“He’s very clean”

He’d just come out of winter maintenance. 😀

I have it good authority that he had just bought the Ariel and was showing it off at the Tennis club.

Blazer and whites weren’t the normal attire for an Ariel jockey.

If I find and Ariel square 4 on my travels I will let you know.

Just for the heck of it, another shot showing the yellow leading edges she now has.

Nice to see the T-6 in parts…

Check how our Harvard looked this summer when we decided she needed a thorough check up! 😉 😉

First you see her for the run-up before we do the oil change.

Then she’s taken apart, old markings are removed. New hydraulic system is rebuilt, new electrical panel, etc… Touch ups with the colour to refresh the scheme a bit and then we put on the new markings.

She used to pass for a Zero, now she’s got RCAF 438 Sqn. codes on her! 😎

I’ve always wanted an Ariel Square 4, but they’re also getting harder to find.

Far too clean. Look like they need much more time in the air.

As your previous winter maintenance thread had a picture of your motorcycles, I attached a pic of my grand father on his Ariel model G circa 1925. I am in the process of trying to buy one. There aren’t too many available apparently. Having spoken with our vehicle licencing office, it may be possible to buy the registration from them so that I had a identicle example.

Hope all the bits go back together on the a/c again. Nothing worse than finding nuts, buts and washers left over after a rebuild.
