Hello,
I’m trying to find out more about WC Davidson’s aircraft while he was leading 143rd wing. The serial is MN158 and with the markings that I have, I don’t know if the aircraft carried the yellow leading-edge ID marks and/or the underwing ID bands.
I’ve seen photos of 3-bladed Tiffies without the yellow markings and the bands, so I’m now highly confused.
Can anyone offer me help?

Hello TempestNut.
The serial can be found in the “Typhoon and Tempest : Canadian Story” by Halliday and also in “the Typhoon and Tempest Story” by Thomas and Shores.
I’ll go with what you’ve told me, but I have one last question : do the leading edge bands go out to between the guns? I’ve seen both styles.
Thanks a lot, you are a great help to me!

Olivier I’ll check out that serial for you as it does not seem to fall into the published production batches I have. I hope my references are not incorrect!!! And I see if I can find out about the yellow as well. I’m modelling a Typhoon with a similar serial that flew 65 missions June 44 to Dec 44 with the same pilot, outstanding record I would say, and the yellow band question is pertinent to my model. May take a couple of days.

Olivier can you check that serial for me as I have MN113to156 then 169 to 213 etc etc but not 158
As for colours the aircraft would have been delivered in std day fighter scheme with sky band and spinner and yellow leading edge. Additionally Typhoons around this time would have had the Typhoon style black and white bands under the wings. Other Tiffies with similar serials were delivered early 44. All Tiffies around this serial had Bubble canopies and three blade props with the Typhoon tailplane.
What time frame are you asking about??
OK just found that he lead 143 wing from Jan44 to May 44 so the above colour information should be correct, assuming no local modification.
