Cees

The spinner was copied from the NASM Me410 as the original was lost early on.

Reason for this is that the airframe is complete apart from the prop and spinner. For years it had been looking a bit odd, but recently (Dave?) it has been replaced with a better looking dummy or original unit.

This shows that if an incorrect spinner is fitted, the whole look of an aircraft is changed (remember the Hurricane).

That’s true enough … and Distiller, IIRC a feature of the K’s was the streamlining/removal of the bulges and they ended up looking rather like the F (which was a beautiful sleek thing).
Any F’s around these days he asked without Googling (please don’t shoot me, I’m only a keyboard player).

Found in the old Harleyford Publication “The Messerschmitt 109 a Famous German Fighter” by Heinze Nowarra. Published in 1963 so obviously these are older images then the 1972 photo.

It sure seems to be the same bird though, listed as a 109G-10/U4

Caption says being prepared for a US Museum as well.

thats seems to be a fuselage of a b50 in the background which would back up the planes of fame id.

Messerschmitt 109G-10/U4 wk.nr. 611943 Planes of Fame

There are no known surviving K models, although one is supposedly being put together in the U.K.

Can’t imagine those bulges over the nose-mounted MGs helped with any view down and forwards!

It’s a K with a wrong spinner (possibly Avia S.99) and some other “impurities”.

I think it was the larger air intake (oil cooler?) beneath the cowling that threw me – then I remembered later-model ‘109s had this feature!

I think I was also confusing it with N700E – ah well, it wouldn’t be a normal day without a blonde moment! 😉

Its only a guess but could it be the ME 109G-10 611943 or 611973  which is now on public view at the planes of fame museum in Arizona?
