Hi,
So what’s your favourite biplane? For those that don’t know, mine is the Gladiator.
So come on post your pics.

This is mine, it says everything about that era.

I didn’t know that La Ferte used the stampe and the T6 so often for reproductions. I’ll write that one down. Thanks for the info melv.
There is of course, a much nicer Se5a at La Ferte now! I think you mean this one. Pic taken at La Ferte show last may.

I like this shot of it (photo: Franck Cabrol)
Am I right in thinking this one has an original engine? Either a Hispano or a Wolsely?
This has a 180hp Hispano. The Wolsley is a geared engine like the one on the SPAD and there is a design problem with the gearbox in those so a direct drive one is better.

Another one I particularly like. Shuttleworths Southern Martlet.

A vote for the erstwhile opposition-almost anything WW1 and German. Here’s one that is missed….. 🙁

90% sure of that. Most things at La Ferte are either based on Stampes or T6’s! Even the Breguet 14 is a T6 frame!

Well, in answer to my own question about the Currie Wot SE5a-alike replica, along with the other Blue Max replicas, go to Fighting Air Command

On the first pic you can indeed see the SE5a reproductions of La Ferte. But I don’t know if they are Stampe conversions.

There was a post a wee while ago about the replicas used in The Blue Max. I seem to remember at least one of the SE5a replicas being based on a Currie Wot??
While browsing www.airliners.net last night, I came across this one:
Is this one of them? (Civil reggie: G-SWOT)
And do any of these fly with the Great War Display Team?? Or are they the 7/8ths scale Replica Plans-built ones?

Aren’t they the Stampe conversions at La Ferte?

I join the Hawker crowd – I think they are the most beautiful
However, today I saw this one. what’s your opinion?
Urgh! 😮
Still, whatever floats your boat. I like wires in the wind, personally 😉

Can anyone tell me about the pair of replica SE5s in Franck’s shot?? They don’t look quite right to me. Are they representing SE5s or 5as?They are three-quarter scale SE5a’s avialiable to the home builder.
Aren’t they the Stampe conversions at La Ferte?

Here’s my favourite.
Anybody care to take a guess?

No takers?
One of Lloyd Stearman’s originals and a photo of the owner whose total time on type runs in to five figure hours.

Erm…world’s fastest biplane? 😀
Seriously, the second one put on a great display this September…it even has a jet engine!

Looking almost aeroplane shaped at last Melv, looks lovely with its cowling on. 🙂
Wait for the next lot . . .
And you know what? I still have absolutely no idea what people see in the Staggerwing. Just my personal opinion of course, but it just looks lopsided to me. Each to their own I guess.
When I first saw one I thought the same. I have now been parked next to one for the last three months and they really do grow on you. It was, after all, the Lear jet of its day.
Then on Saturday Paul McConnell (who is a damn fine chap) insisted I travel from Popham to Old Sarum in said aeroplane.
Jeeeeeez it is nice. We only did 155 on the way there, AND IT WAS JUST ABOVE IDLE!!!!
Steve, start your paper round again and start saving.
Trust me
You know I only have your best interests at heart

Not sure about the top one, but the bottom one wears a scheme based on A8898 a No60 Sqn aircraft of late 1917.
By: DazDaMan - 29th November 2004 at 19:32
The one on the lower aircraft is – I don’t have my SE5/5a profile to hand, however.
