A Couple of Mossie Piccies

Thought I’d share these couple of Mosquito photos that I recently unearthed with you. They’re both official de Havilland photos – sorry they’re cropped a bit but they’re too big to get on the scanner!

Fabulous though the FB.VI shot is, I think the T.III photo shows off the wonderful shape of the Mossie beautifully.

BTW, the serial on the FB.VI is NT193, anyone know what became of this aircraft?

The photos are dated 26/4/1944 for the FB.VI and 17/6/1947 for the Turkish T.III.

The Turkish Air Force were actually quite big operators of Mosquitos and had 10 T.IIIs and 96 FB.VIs delivered in 1947. They all came from RAF surplus stocks and were overhauled prior to delivery by Fairey.

Did they use the Mossie in large numbers in Turkey. I didn’t know they ever had the type. 😮

Hi,

NT193 served with 305, 605 and back to 305 Squadrons. Last unit was 13 OTU. To MoS 9/1/49.

Does anyone know what MoS means?

Info from RAF serials NA100-NZ999, complied by James Halley, Air Britain.

Alex

Possibly Ministry of Supply.
