Hurricane L1963, Sgt L.V. Toogood killed, crashed vertically from height during high-altitude aerobatics, cause unknown, but probably oxygen failure, fell at Congburn Dean, Edmondsley, 10.25 hrs.

66 squadron, Gravesend

Spitfire P7539, P/O J.R. Mather killed, crashed and burned out at Half Moon Lane, Hildenborough, cause unknown but possible anoxia victim, 08.30 hrs.

74 squadron, Biggin Hill

Spitfire P7526, Sgt J.A. Scott killed, shot down in combat with Bf109s over Maidstone, crashed and exploded at Dundas Farm, Elmstead, 09.00 hrs.

145 squadron, Tangmere

Hurricane P3167, P/O A.R.I.G. Jottard missing, shot down by Bf109 five miles south east of the Isle of Wight, 17.15 hrs.

603 squadron, Hornchurch

Spitfire P7439, F/O C.W. Goldsmith killed (died 28/10/40), shot down in surprise attack by Bf109s south of Maidstone, crashed near Waltham, 14.05 hrs.

Spitfire P7365, P/O R.B. Dewey killed, shot down by Bf109s in surprise attack south of Maidstone, flew into a tree at Apple Tree Corner, Chartham Hatch, 14.05 hrs.
