151 squadron, Digby

Hurricane V7434, Sgt D.O. Stanley killed, crashed and burst into flames on take-off from Coleby Grange on night-flying practice, 20.40 hrs. Sgt Stanley was seriously injured and died the next day.

Hurricane R4184, Sgt R Holder killed, crashed attempting left turn shortly after take-off from Coleby Grange, 20.55 hrs.

229 squadron, Northolt

Hurricane W6669, F/O G.M. Simpson missing, shot down by Bf109s whilst attacking He59 off French coast, and crashed in the sea, 11.30 hrs.

602 squadron, Westhampnet

Spitfire R6839, Sgt D.W. Elcome missing, failed to return from routine squadron patrol, 12.30 hrs.
