What would have happened if GB had stayed out of the war? Could Germany have won?
Anna 😉

Yes Andy, I photoshopped it. That was my first ever one – about 3 or 4 years ago I guess. I should redo it really – one thing that’s always bugged me is that the face of my great grandmother looks stuck on – its like that on the original, but I should be able to blend it now that i’m more practiced.

What ifs might have followed if the Germans had gone east in 1914 while remaining on the defensive against France 😉

Germany woulfd have put
Ann Dear,
German had won the war if it was a quick and lighting one and if the Russians could have been neutralized.
With that said alot of stuff in aviation would have been stunt or not even happen. IE Air Combat as we know and The Belcke Dictate would never had happen nore aerobatic manovers like the Immelmann and outside loop would ahve been father down the road. Plus the develpoment of faster aircraft and engines would have stagnated to a grinding hault.

My Great Grandfather was in the BEF as a Lancer.

Is that rather fine fine wedding portrait in colour as a result of your photoshopping skills?
It doesn’t look like one of those tinted B&W pictures that were sometimes done back then.
I have a tinted portrait of my Grandfather wearing hospital blue taken while he was convalescing from the western front.
Cheers

Of course it did. That’s American history. You, however, have become an honorary Englishman, so please do learn the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

My Great Grandfather was in the BEF as a Lancer. Yes it would have been won without them. It would not have been better if they had – but many lives would have been saved then and later.

Well a sensible question deserves a sensible answer.
Britain in 1914 had a very small contribution to make to the land war on the continent.
The British Expeditionary force consisted of only six divisions (five of Infantry and one of cavalry).
So they only made up a very small part of the allied forces on land.
I suspect the Germans probably wouldn’t have prevailed in 1914 whether the British were fighting or not, however the Imperial German Army would have remained in being and without that army being defeated a negotiated peace would have been the only option for the French. So it could have been like 1871 again.
Later in the war, the British (and Commonwealth) forces were vital to final allied victory but the huge citizen armies of 1917/18 didn’t exist in 1914.
Well it’s a start.
Cheers

PS To stop Moggy, Mark and the other moderators saying we’re off topic.
The Royal Flying Corps went to France in August 1914 with four squadrons, No’s 2,3,4 and 5.

Anna, sorry Mark 9.
Before I embark on a long and detailed answer to that, why are you asking??
Last Friday night we had Pearl Harbo(u)r and now we’ve got The Schlieffen Plan.
Are you studying twentieth century history for an A level or something??
Cheers
Andy
PS Take an umbrella to East Kirkby tomorrow.
It will get blown away 😀 I am asking because I am bored, and I would like to know what would our century have been like without WW1-or with a smaller and shortened version that involved only continental powers? Over too you 😉

Ok, but might the world have been the better for a German Victory?
