Flying boat at Thorpe Park??

Can anyone answer me this?

I was discussing Ray Hilborne’s S5 replica that was built for Leisure Sport with a guy who is building a full-scale replica two-seater Spitfire, and recalled a photo I have of a large flying boat on the lake at Thorpe Park (where the S5 was based?).

Anyone tell me what it was? I can’t find the photo now to try and scan it, either, but I seem to recall it had RAF roundels…

Over to you…..!!

This was what I found. Don’t think there was a designated thread on it, though.

The only photo I ever saw of the Viking at Thorpe park is on display next to the aircraft, so getting to that might be tricky for me. Also it’s been a while since I looked at it, so whether it had RAF roundels????? I haven’t got a clue I’m afraid!

That looks like it – although I’m sure the one I saw had roundels

Vickers 60 Viking IV (replica) ‘G-EBED’ (BAPC #114).

Biplane amphibian now at The Brooklands Museum indeed, formerly at Thorpe Park. I think it was taxiable with a Ford automotive engine, damaged during its time at Thorpe IIRC and later restored at Brooklands.

No photo available from me right now I’m afraid (hidden at home), but I’m sure someone will have one.

edit: found one on the net: http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=175028

There were two Viking replicas built for the film ‘Land that Time Forgot’; I think one of these went to Thorpe Park. They are a civil registered single engined biplane. Wrecks and ‘W’relics will hav e chaper and verse.

It was a biplane, if that helps?

The Vickers Viking replica (?) now at Brooklands was IIRC at Thorpe Park.
