That’s the best way to describe today’s Duxford display. From a personal point of view, first viewings of the Sea Hawk (what a beautiful aeroplane!), a trio of Jungs (one ‘meister, two ‘manns, or should that be ‘menn?), and some guy in a Sukhoi doing things which utterly defy all known laws of physics and aerodynamics. Add a healthy gathering of forumites, the obligatory pi$$taking out of my car (thanks JDK), and you have a recipe for a fabulous autumn day out.
I’ll leave the flying shots to those with lenses bigger than Belgium, but meanwhile here’s some of the static…
By the way, we think the rather wobbly shot of the RN Commando may have been Darren Harbar’s cadets being taken up for their Jellywobbler flight as a reward for their efforts in the Red Bull silliness at Knebworth a couple of months ago. Under Darren’s leadership, they built a three wheeled contraption shaped like a Eurofighter and came 18th out of (lots – can’t remember the exact number). A sterling effort, and hats off to Darren for his efforts in keeping youngsters interested in aviation and other general daftness! 😀

What’s that to the right of the Blenheim? Is it the Mk I nose they converted from its previous life as a car?

Ahh, I didn’t think it was full-size 😉

What’s that wingtip in front of the Blenheim’s nose from??
It’s from a scale flying model of a Blenheim. I’d estimate the span at about ten feet. Ish. 🙂

Rant on, Steve! 😉

Good to see VN485 back in (almost) one piece, too 🙂

While we were looking in hangar one, we found a group of folks trying to raise funds to put a Concorde back in the air. Hmm. It prompted a typical Youngy rant about how it was utterly pointless giving money to a project that will never come to fruition, and that the money would be better spent on keeping existing projects ‘live’.
So when we walked along the line past Sally B, it was time to put the money where the mouth was. For four quid, you can get on board and have a look inside the UK’s only flying B17. And then when you get off again, you know that you’ve made a small contribution towards keeping this wonderful old bomber in the air where she belongs.
I know where I’d rather put my money… 😉

Meanwhile… no visit to Duxford is complete without a tour of the hangars to see what’s new. 😉
