Martin Seamaster

Now, who can’t agree that this would have been spectacular if it had have made service.

Only the Russians have seemed to perfected the jet-powered sealplane method (Beriev Albatross).

What actually killed off this program?
Was it just too advanced for it’s time, or were the US losing faith in water-borne aircraft?

It’s a shame it was killed off.
Lovely looking jet.

Fairly fast too with being able to do mach 0.9 just above sea level.
(Might give a Bucaneer a run for it’s money 😉 )

That and the Convair Sea-Dart just reinforce the fact that good looks aren’t everything unfortunately.

I’m not sure it was the Neptune that killed the project off,more like 2 catastrauphic accidents and the advent of the Polaris missile system. There’s a page full of stats and info on the SeaMaster and the Convair SeaDart on the page below…
