Go Turbo

Well done Chris 😉 , Yes I have seen some of that too Turbo, Remember the Crinkly Spits as well, I seem to remember some training carrier shots on land that were interesting as well, Back half of plane stopped, And the rest with pilot kept going, Whats it Known as a controlled crash when hitting the ramp/deck  , Still better than the poor guys that had to go up in those Hurras Cat launched, Did great work, But the Hurra did not ditch very well, Some lived others well you get the picture 🙁 , My next quiz I am trying for a spread across the years and some from all corners of the World so everyone can have a go, Been good stuff Rob 🙂 , Yes I find its more fun when harder, Keep it up, Cheers Lads, Tally Ho! Phil. :diablo:

Very interesting.
Thanks, CM.

I remember looking at slowed-down footage of early carrier landings and watching the fixed non-sprung undercart just crumbling apart from the stresses.

I await your next quiz… 🙂

The Photo is….

Hi TNZ,

The photo was taken on Jan. 11 1928, its the first landing on the USS Saratoga CV-3 the pilot was non other then CDR. Marc A. Mitscher the Air Officer for Air Wing 3.

The UO-1 was one of the first Naval Aircraft to recieve Oleo shock-absobing landing gear other aircraft to receive these were the NB-1, FB-1 and the SC-2.

I am ready for # 5 !!!

Bring it on !!!

Just a note though,…all the references I looked at didn’t mention the UO-1 as being carrier capable.
What was the story behind the pic you produced for the quiz?
Just interested to learn about early US Navy aviation, that’s all. 🙂

Should always go………..

Well I was going to say UO-1

TNZ

Well TNZ,

You should always go with your first idea thats what my Dad tells me.

And yes its the Vought UO-1.

So are you ready for #5 or do you want to rest your Brain because if you think this one was hard wait till the next one :diablo:

Well I was going to say UO-1 but I believe they never flew off carriers, just catapulted off battleships.
Then I was going to say VE7-SF but the pic isn’t very clear and I can’t tell if it’s a radial or inline powered aircraft.
THe VE-7SF was the first aircraft to take off from the first US carrier( Langley)

So I’ll go with the second one.
If I’m wrong then I give up !!!!! 😉

Cheers
Chris

Sorry Maye But…….

Is no. 3 a Vought O2U-1 Corsair ?

TNZ

TNZ,

Nope but on the bright side you have all of the Aircraft type numbers just now got to go back and do some looking.

Now for the other one one more hint on the company they build medium bombers during WWII and the only one of these type of bombers that is airworthy is owned by Kermit Weeks

TNZ I told you I was going to make this one harder, if you think this one is hard wait till you see the next two I’ve got all line up :diablo: :dev2:
