Aluminum Overcast made a successful flight this afternoon. Great to see her back in the air.

aluminum overcast

Too bad the plane doesn’t tour Florida. Several years ago I was invited to have a ride in the plane while she was enroute to Kitty Hawk, NC

Yes, she’s almost ready to fly again. I look forward to seeing her when she passes through here in June. I can park at the west end of the runway and bask in the sights and sounds of a B-17 in action.

My understanding is that she needs lots of expensive work yet, but at least she’ll be at home in her own hangar where they can work on her over the winter instead of the maintenance crew having to commute back and forth to California.

Great news, here’s to a succesful ferry flight and a speedy recovery. 🙂
As for the tailwheel,I think ‘Overcast has had her’s fixed in the down position for many years. I was watching a programme about preserved flying Forts on discovery just a couple of nights ago,and it seems an increasing number of the airworthy examples over there are having thier tailwheels fixed down aswell.

Thanks, turbo_NZ. I must confess I hadn’t noticed the tailwheel; I have now checked the other pictures in the same sequence and it was down all the time – no idea why, though.

Beautiful pic.

I notice the tailwheel is still down. Was the retraction system disabled ?
