Armstrong Whitworth Site

As I may have mentioned before, I have the pleasure (!) of working at Jaguar’s Whitley Engineering Centre. Jaguar have been on this site since the 80’s, before that it was owned by Chrysler. However, originally the site was Armstrong Whitworth’s.

So my questions for the Collective intellect are:

1. I’m pretty sure that Siskin’s were made here, along with other AW aircraft of the period. Were Whitley’s made here as well? The site isn’t huge…

2. Has anyone got photo’s of the site when it was used for aircraft production?

3. Anything thing else of interest?

The site has changed a lot, but most of the original buildings are still in use. It would be nice to see what was where. There’s still a lot of the “camoflage” concrete about (the type with the holes in it for the grass to grow through) so this was obviously considered a target during WWII.

TIA!

JC

Hi John

No, I didn’t know you worked there.

The prototype Whitley was constructed there, but all the others were manufactured at Baginton.

PM on its way to you 😉
