hope you don’t mind me adding to this thread, this day was also my mums birthday, which she would have spent part of it taking my grandfather his lunch to the old English Electric airfield at Preston, lancs. when she was there she would often play in the gun turrets of what she described as a two engined halifax (seen pics and it was probably as she described, a halifax with both outers removed). mum went on to work at RAF West Raynham (sp?) in the NAFFI. grandad stayed on with EE then BAC, and retired when they where making Jet Provost T5s. hope you don’t mind me rambling on.
Best regards.

‘Men of the Battle of Britain’ says he bailed out of V6608 on the 29th September, and that he retired from the RAF on 23rd December 1957 as a Wing/cdr.
However, ‘Fighter Command losses’ ‘ the relevant Air-Britain s/n book, & ‘The Battle of Britain Then & now’ say he bailed out of V6608 on the 27th September.

I could be wrong but I think that his hasty exit from V6608 took place on the 27th Sept. He is not listed on the CWGC website so we must assume he survived the war.

Wasn’t this the day that Gordon Sinclair baled out of V6608 over Godmersham? I wonder what happened to him in the end – I believe he survived the war.
