Sabre Census

Someone contacted me some time ago about the pic (attached) of the Sabre at Le Bourget, Paris. I just thought it would be interesting to see how many Sabre engines (and in what condition) there are out there.

The attached is one at Le Bourget (With the German engines behind) the other at the Canadian Aviation museum, Ottawa.

Offers? How many can we produce (with pics?)

Cheers

Compaired to the number of DB605’s around me thinks the number of Sabre’s surviving as a percent age of production will be quite high

Sabre Engine Count…

From the research I have completed over the last 6 years (I was certainly one of the people who asked you about the sabre in france JDK) I currently have a count of 24 known to exist from rough to basically runnable. There are a further 2 lying on the sea bed around Guernsey which are known about and I have a further 4 left that I have yet to investigate their location/existence. It suprised me just how many were left when I was compiling the list….

Chiz.

Not that one! The one made by Napier. You know, the useless British General (Oh, yes, that was most of them…)

Naah, that’s not a Sabre engine. It’s got a prop on the front!! Doesn’t look like an General Electric J47 to me??
