Not to be missed………Sunday 17th October 2004

😀
For ALL devotees of this forum there is a treat on the near horizon. Once again we have come into the season of falling leaves, mists and mellow fruitfulness that is autumn. It is the time for relaxing in a comfortable venue, listening to some scintillating presentations, meeting up with old friends and making some new ones along with an opportunity to see the finest exhibition of aircraft that will not feel air over their wings again in the UK.

It is the Historic Aircraft Association 2004 symposium to be held on Sunday 17th October at the RAF Museum Hendon. Starting at 0930 the programme includes the following guest speakers-

John Fairey on his Fairey Flycatcher replica
Andy Sephton on flying World War 1 era rotary engined aeroplanes
Charlie Newman on the Stringfellow Steam powered aircraft
Jock Lowe on CONCORDE – start to finish

There will be ample time during lunch or after the end of the symposium to roam the superb collection of aircraft in the museum including the recently opened new extensions.

The event is open to all, not only HAA members, however admission is by ticket only and for details you should email the HAA secretary Stuart Powney at < stuartPowney@btinternet.com > or telephone 01926 831324 (answerphone). The cost to members is but £15 with £17.50 for non-members. The ticket price includes refreshments on arrival and a private buffet lunch in the art gallery mezzanine.

In past years this event has become a really unmissable one with some memorable speakers and 2004 looks set to continue in that vein. See you there.

Cheers,

was at Hendon yesterday as guest of HAA member, and have to agree it was a most interesting day, both with the official speakers and talking to the many aviation personalities present.Having known many of the names for a(very) long time it was good to finally meet them in the flesh.Fully intend to join HAA as a result of the day,and thoroughly recommend next years event to all….WELL DONE TO THE ORGANISERS!!!!!

Janie,
Glad you enjoyed the day. Great venue, great speakers and great buffet lunch. Loads of real aviation celebrities there who were approachable. There was plenty of room for more folk so perhaps next years event will approach the full house.
I had not picked up my copy of the programme so had no raw material for the aerial origami – damn……………!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jock Lowe really oozed his passionate relationship with Concorde – I have rarely heard such an enthusiast present his subject so well and with such emotive visuals.
Till the next time.

Well, I don’t know about you, Skybolt, but I had to hold back the tears when Jock showed the video of The Concorde at the end.

Cracking symposium. They do get some terrific speakers in.

I was rather surprised that, when Wally had to ad lib because one speaker had not yet emerged from powdering his nose ( 😉 ), you did not use the time as an opportunity to start a paper aeroplane airshow. Your avia-origami expertise is most impressive and infectious.

To all historic forum addicts,
Just a reminder that the HAA symposium is at the RAF Museum tomorrow, Sunday 17 October starting at 0930. If you can come along as it should be a great programme.

Sadly I am planning to be a tad hungover from your veryown daughter’s fifth wedding anniversary party, that is alleged to be happening the day before.

(This is a subtle way of reminding you to buy Hels a pressie)
