Sorta off topic

Hi all,
Just wondering what imaging software is considered to be the best for photography manipulation purposes?

I currently use Paint Shop Pro 7.04 and am wondering whether or not to upgrade to Version 9 or is there something better out there?

Any suggestions will be gratefully received

Ha – and webby said there was no demand (or whatever) for an aviation photography sub-forum…

What are you trying to do? Manipulation?

We use Paintshop Pro 7 at the learning centre, and we had a course on getting the best out of it. Does all I need, but learning the tools! Also, those familiar with Photoshop seem to find Paintshop frustrating because the functions aren’t laid out similarly (and vice versa).

At home I use something called ‘Graphic converter’ from a company called Lemkesoft(?) which as shareware is basic but good. The full package costs 30 quid or so…

Cheers!

Perhaps if you specify a little more what you want to do i can be better able to reccomend a product.

Hi John,
I use it mainly for correcting the colour balance/quality of my poor digital images.

One of the lesser features that I very much like, is the browser window which shows all images in a specific folder which, when I first started using PSP back in the mid to late 90’s, wasn’t always available on other programmes!

Also, thanks for all the other replies, looks like I’m leaning towards PSP v9.0 upgrade unless….

I use Photoshop Elements 2.0, which seems to contain many of the main features of Photoshop at less than 1/10 the price. It also comes bundled with Canon DSLRs as a ‘gimme’. I’m relatively happy with the functionality, and it is quite user-friendly and intuitive to use.

Mike,

Thats what I use as well, came a freebie with the 300D. It works really well for what I want to do.

Hi Tony

It always depends on what you want to do with it..

It is best to look at Adobe Photoshop 7 as the current “best practice” product because of the features etc and generally I would agree – it does everything and I definately reccomend it but it costs a bomb and a lot of us don’t have that sort of dosh.

Some of the lesser products such as paint shop etc are pretty good too .

Perhaps if you specify a little more what you want to do i can be better able to reccomend a product.
