Zero gunsight

Hi Folks,

I’m currently in Japan at the moment and was watching one of those popular auction programs where ordinary people take stuff in their homes and have an expert evaluate its estimated worth.

Today, some guy brought out a mint condition in the box A6M Zero gunsight with spare parts.

Does anyone know how rare this item is?

The estimated value for the sight was 2 million yen or about $18,000 US at the current exchange rate.

I have no idea if that’s a realistic estimate or not.

Now that’s hilarious !

I knew that Japanese collectors pay high or exorbitant prices for such collectibles, but this is way off.

If it’s in pristine, working condition, the above price divided by six (maybe five) would be more appropriate, but this US$ 18K ? Insane !

Revi Gunsights in perfect condition go between US$ 1’000 and 2’000, a US K-14 won’t sell above US$ 500.00.

Mmmm that’s a bit on the high side. There was one on ebay earlier this year that went for around US $4500 – not that that’s cheap of course.

I’d say VERY rare – in the last two years I have only seen one such gunsight appear on ebay and similar sites. There were dozens of German REVI types and many more RAF and USAAF / USN types, but those from Japan are pretty scarce.
