Anyone from Birmingham on this forum??

Anyone on the forum from Birmingham U.K? I am looking for an obituary for a
Sgt. Douglas Morton Sellars service #1164554 RAFVR. He died May 9/1942
Age 27 and is buried in Brookwood. I have emailed the Birmingham library about getting a copy of his obituary, but they want to charge me 20 pounds
for a piece of paper and 10 minutes of their time. I am trying to locate relatives of this fellow as he flew with my Uncle. I have written to everyone listed in the telephone book with the same last name in Birmingham and so far no one is related…

Cheers,

Todd

Hi Whitley freak, try contacting the Solihull Times.Email Solihull_Times@mrn.co.uk,this is one of our local papers.Good luck with your search, they might run a small article, you never know!
Best wishes Alan.
PS There should be a lower dash between Solihull and Times I think, try it and see.

Hi Kev35,

Yes he was from Solihull. He was training at 10 OTU ABingdon on Whitley P5057 crashed Waen Carno, Powys, Wales. His parents were Percy Douglas
and Dora Sellars also of Solihull. My Great Grandparents were in contact with his family 60 years ago and several attempts to mail them in the mid fifties
were made also. The letters came back as “MOVED”. I can’t remember which papers I communicated with. I have written so many papers/libraries for other obits… I’d appreciate any help you could offer!

Cheers,

Ttodd

Hi.

I take it he was from Solihull, that could mean his obituary, if there was one might have appeared in a Warwickshire newspaper. Have you any idea which one it might be? Can you disclose the circumstances of his death? That might lead to another avenue to explore. The B’ham library holds the B’ham Post and I think the Evening mail. Solihull, in 1942, would have been quite a way outside the City of Birmingham.

I may be able to take a look in a couple of weeks time if that’s any help.

Regards,

kev35
