Thanks for the correction, Ant. I seemed to recall the engine from one of the planes survived, at any rate!

IIRC,the Merlin was from the Hurri rather than the Spit.As far as I can remeber, the Spit was in it’s entirety reduced to a molten puddle on the floor. 🙁
Btw,the CAF have vowed to rebuild the P47N,but it was so heavily damaged that I reckon much of the airframe will have to be replaced, rather like BBMF Hurri LF363.

I think only the Merlin from MK297 was saved as it was removed for overhaul at the time (although I could be wrong).

It’s sobering to think that all of the above aircraft have since been severely damaged or destroyed-the P47N virtualy destroyed by fire after a non-fatal take off accident a couple of years ago,the Spit destroyed in the CWH hangar fire and the Buchon lost about 10 years ago in a fatal take-off accident after loss of power due to ignition problems.
Great pics,but tinged with sadness.

That’s the worst scheme I have ever seen on a Buchon! 😮

I read that the remains of Spitfire MK297 are in store and could form the basis of another restoration. Is this true, so we haven’t lost her?
