I have read a report recently that a Mosquito B.35 is being rebuilt possibly to fly over in Canada.
However the report was rather old so can anyone provide details of if this project is still going ahead and if the intention is to get it airworthy ?
Also is the Mossie at the Yorkshire Air Museum still going to be made runnable at some stage in the future ?

Hi all–
The chap with “title to two Mossies” wouldn’t be Jim Dearborn, would it? That matches earlier info I read (I forget where). Don’t know whether Mr Dearborn flies for FedEx, though. One of the Mossie projects was the “spare” CAF one, a PR.34A (RG300??). I forget which the other one was.

I’m a hop skip and a jump from the Vancouver International airport. I’ll see if I can find the mosquito for some more pics.

Please do so. Any visual update will be to some interest to a lot of people here. I hope you can find that mossie.

I may be wrong, but I think Bob Jens is an airline pilot, so it could very well be him.
I thought these pictures of the Ferrymead Mosquito restoration, might interest.

Hi HP81,
This Yank wouldn’t happen to be a Delta Pilot?
If he does have clear title then I should be able to pulli tfrom the FAA files.
Cheers Crazymainer
No, Federal Express.

Yes, the Liverpool machine was TA634, which has been at London Colney for many years now.
Sadly it spent its first ten years at the museum outside and in the cold, which did nothing for its state of preservation!
It is in good overall condition though, although it needs a bit more time spent on re-fitting detail systems here and there. Also, if anyone has a couple of Merlin 113/114,s available, then do let me know!

I’m sure Bruce or Neilly would know for certain but I think TA634, now at London Colney, came from Liverpool.

He Wouldn’t happen to Be a …………
I have spoken quite recently to a US airline pilot who said that he is rebuilding a Mosquito to fly. He claimed to have the ‘Title’ (if that’s the correct term) to more than one airframe. On the two or three occassions that I have seen him he has been on his way to Salisbury Hall with metal components, cowling parts I think, to get more details & paterns.
I have no other details but he seemed genuine.

I remember some years ago (quite a few) there was a Mossy at the old Liverpool Airport in the old hangar which became the International Terminal. I managed to climb into this a/c and it seemed in very good nick. What ever became of this aeroplane??
I remember that too. As an Air Cadet with 90 Speke Squadron I couldn’t see it without dreaming of my Father winning the pools (Youngsters – just substitute ‘lottery’) and giving me the money to restore it to flight.
It certainly popped-up in 633 Squadron.

Hi All
Back from Canberraa today and saw the AWM example again while I was there – they have closed the public access to the annex at Mitchell so you can’t see the overflow collection any more.
On the subject of New build Mossies there is still a fair quantity of stuff (metal components only) here in Australia so it could be that some of the stuff for an FB IV could come from here.

Hi All,
The first Glyn Powell fuselage is going to the Windsor Bomber Group http://www.mossie.org/windsor/windsor.htm
These are a couple of pictures of Bob Jens Mosquito B.35, VR 796. They were taken at the beginning of this year. I do have more but, because of pc problems, I can’t reduce them to a suitable size for this site.
Cheers,
Neilly

Anyone have any idea when this Mossie might fly again ?
Be nice to get it over to Duxford one day 🙂
As usual, it’s the old it’ll fly when it’s ready situation. :dev2:
Purely speculation on my part, but I’d be surprised if it’s within the next 5 years, probably longer than that.
I would’nt hold my breath over an appearance at Duxford…..

Denys,
The fuselage that has gone to Canada from Glyn Powell is for a static restoration. It was detailed in Classic Wings about a year ago. The fuselage was effectively a test shot for his new moulds, to ensure they work OK.
Apparently it came out beautifully and the moulds are perfect, but if I recall correctly this static example didn’t use aviation grade wood – is this correct anyone?
I don’t have the magazine in front of me. but from memory the article stated Glyn was now going to make the first airworthy newbuild fuselage, which will go into his own rebuild of an ex-RNZAF Mossie, that he does intend to fly.

There are fresh reports surfacing out here in NZ about a mossie being shipped here from Canada to be rebuilt using a new build fuselage from Glynn Powell. My sources suggest it to be an FBVI but I can’t tie that back to a canadian source…any input anyone?

Yes, that’s correct, it’s Mosquito B.35 VR796/CF-HML owned by Bob Jens, being rebuilt at Jens facilty at Vancouver Int. Airport. It’s an ex-Spartan Air Services airframe.
