Hello gentlemen,
I thought you’d might be interested in the fact that the Bf 109 (D-FWME) “Rote 7” recently had its first flight again after a complete restauration. She is based at Albatadt-Degerfeld, Germany.
Fuselage is a CASA, engine is an original DB 605 AB( assembled from 24 different engines).

Would these have been the DB’s that were reputedly found buried in their crates at Frankfurt airport a few years ago perhaps? Seem to recall there was talk of about half a dozen being found and recovered but then everything went all quiet.
No they wouldn’t, none of those were anywhere near airworthy. The Flugwerk find came out of Eastern Europe in crates. Don’t know the quantity…

BTW – you may remember in the Flypast Classified Ads earlier this year that a chap in Daventry had a 605 for sale – the opening gambit was ‘well i want at least £10k for it’ and the conversation kinda stalled….especially as it was a crash recovered…:)

Just dreaming as usual  , The use of all these new build/replicas and other aircraft projects such as warplanes that have not been seen to leave the ground since 45, Will open many more wartime movies with just their looks 😮 , To me just to see the two Point Cook Stangs sweep in together and do a series of beat ups of the field blew me away 🙂 , The Merlins purred in my ears like never before, I placed myself with 35mm at take off end of Runway wormed my way in with the pro boys taking pics and vid and smelt and felt the heat blow over us they went past 😀 , With asistance from Melb hot day and wind,It was a small show, Something to do with the base about 10/12 years ago, I was invited to go to the big Stang round up at Tyabb this year which would have been fantastic, But the visits at Cook on 17th dec 03 and 27/28 04 and hot summer, Dimmed my energy stocks 🙁 , So missed it, Next one YES 😉 , To watch 2 real looking 109s and 2 Butcher Birds followed by 2 262s as the top act beat up the field 😮 , Would have to be a life long fantasy dream that was never meant to happen  , Bit like jumping in H.G.Wells Time machine :p , LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL :p , Cheers, Tally Ho! Phil 😎

An Italian friend of mine – restoring a T-6 in Italy came across several crated DBs in Italy – think they are for sale/have been sold – also if memory serves right there is a crated (and stencilled) DB on the ‘engine wall’ in the Superhangar at DX…

Top stuff , If only there were more D.B.s around
Speaking of this, does anyone have the scoop on Flug Werk and their statement: “Along with the exclusive possibility to power the 109’s with all new DB 601 engines, Flug Werk has now the opportunity to revive another very important fighter aircraft of German WWII fame”?
I’m curious to know how many ‘new’ DB’s they might have located. Any chance of a substantial find?

We’d also need all the Spits re-engined and possibly retailed to look like Mk I’s and II’s. 🙂
Or build several replicas for about $250,000….

Then maybe a remake of the B of B movie that would be authentic 🙂
Well no, because most of the Buchons that have been re-engined with German engines have been made into Bf109G models, so though a little more aesthetically pleasing they won’t actually be authentic for a Battle of Britain film. We’d also need all the Spits re-engined and possibly retailed to look like Mk I’s and II’s. 🙂
I think Brad Pitt would be very good, he’s a good actor and can do an Irish accent very well. I’m sure he could do an English one if he tried. 🙂 he’d be much better than the less versatile Tom Cruise, put it that way. Although Tom can actually fly the planes which is a bonus I suppose.

If you want a charecter actor, you can’t beat a Buchon.
List of parts played in films (there’s been others, these are those I can remember):
Itself
Messerschmitt 109 (B/D, E, F, G)
Spitfire
Hurricane
Mustang (P51B/C(?!)
Not bad…
It would seem the Buchon has a wider character range than the aforementioned Mr. Cruise. 🙂
(Though less actual range than the Spitfire and Mustang).

p.s. are there any real actors around now days who could pull this off
I don’t think Brad Pitt can do that job.
On that link of Alpha, it is told (if my knowledge of the german language is OK) that the Me109 should make its first flight next monday, and a second one next week on wednesday. The team has plans to make a press release in october with a lot more info. But for now, they want to complete their paperwork and get a permit to fly.
PS: Don’t convert all the Buchons to DB. Some of us just might also like the merlin bird. 😮 Of course a DB is very very very …. nice too!

Phil 😉 (p.s. are there any real actors around now days who could pull this off  )

EADS is owner of two buchon’s (D-FMBB and D-FDME).
This buchon (Rote 7) CN 319 is reported to be in france at this site:
http://www.preservedaxisaircraft.com/
But here it is reported to be OWNED  by Flugwerk in germany:
http://www.avions-de-legende.com/tablprof/Tabrest.htm
This could ewmpain its registration FlugWerk ME109.
But nohing is mentioned on the website of Flugwerk. Maybe french owners, but transported to flugwerk for the fitting of the DB engine?

Maybe someone else can hep us out here? 😮

EADS being the ones operating the other ‘Bf109s’ in Germany, D-FMBB and D-HDME?
By: alpha - 1st September 2004 at 12:34
This is great news! Thanks a lot Alpha. Who operates this Buchon? EADS?
J.V.
Iit’s a group of enthusiasts that operate this 109 (until now they kept the whole project as secret as possible). To my (limited) knowledge EADS is not involved.
